Some people have a tendency to accumulate fat under the chin, also known as the submental area. This can extend down into the neck and along the jaw line. This can have the effect of blunting the jaw line and chin area with loss of definition. Patient's can lose confidence as a result, choosing clothing which covers this area up.

Chin and neck fat is amenable to liposuction. A very small incision is made underneath the chin in the midline and through this a liposuction cannula is passed to gently remove the fat. If there is excess of skin and laxity in the neck, this is combined with a formal neck lift procedure.
